Coenzyme Q10 in Skin Care Products is Good Right? Wrong

Coenzyme Q10 in Skin Care Products is Good Right? Wrong

Everyone knows Coenzyme Q10, (or CoQ10) is a great ingredient to find in your skin care products. If you look on the label of your anti aging product bottles it's almost obligatory to see Coenzyme Q10 listed.

Q10

That's why it's there, because everyone expects to see it there, so if they do it sells. But is it good to see Coenzyme Q10 listed in the ingredients?

Hard question to answer, because it's not easy to say. Yes and no. It depends. And that's why it's not sufficient to assume that if Coenzyme Q10 is listed on the ingredients list that's good. Because it depends on a number of things.

What is Coenzyme Q10 and what does it do? It is a substance that is naturally made by the human body and is essential for the proper functioning of our cells. It's like a vitamin, or what is known as an anti oxidant, and as we get older our store of CoQ10 starts to decrease. As CoQ10 is important to our skin health this isn't good. As an anti oxidant it helps protect our cells against damage by free radicals.

And as free radicals are important factors in the aging process, we need good stores of anything that help protect us against them.

And it helps our skin molecules to function properly, and produce substances like collagen and elastin, both essential to skin health as well.

Our supply of Coenzyme Q10 starts to deplete with age, and stress, and other lifestyle factors like poor diet. And in particular Coenzyme Q10 is depleted when our skin is exposed to UV radiation. Ie it's exposed to the sun's rays.

So if it helps protect our skin cells from free radical damage and also helps produce useful skin substances, wouldn't it be good to see Coenzyme Q10 listed on the label of the skin care and anti aging products we use?

Not necessarily. There's some problems. Even if it's to be of use to us it has to be there in sufficient quantities, and often it isn't. Secondly it has to be present in a form that can penetrate the skin. Even if there is sufficient quantities in the product it's no use if it can't penetrate the skin and get to where it can do it's work.

Otherwise it just sits on the surface of the skin.

How have the best skin care and anti aging companies overcome this? By producing a special version of Coenzyme Q10 called Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10. This is a type of CoQ10 that has tiny particle sizes that do get into the skin, and has been shown to increase the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin. This in turn has quite a significant effect on combating wrinkles.

And it can work it's anti oxidant miracles once it's got into your skin and can then help prevent skin damage.

Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 is extremely expensive, but if it works then there will be companies that will use it to produce the best, and most effective, anti aging skin care products that money can buy. But as these companies don't spend stacks of money on marketing their products are cost comparable to the other products you'll find on the shelves that don't contain Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10, and aren't very effective.

But as they don't spend stacks on marketing, chances are you've never even heard of them, even though they produce the best anti aging and skin care products in the world.

So no, it isn't necessarily good to find Coenzyme Q10 in your skin care products, but it is good to find Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10. But you won't find it in mainstream skincare products on the shelves.

Natural Way to Lower Cholesterol - Proven Steps You Can Take to Reduce High Cholesterol Readings

Natural Way to Lower Cholesterol - Proven Steps You Can Take to Reduce High Cholesterol Readings

When was the last time you heard of a doctor discussing the best natural way to lower cholesterol with his patients? For some reason, most medical professionals have no problem prescribing statin medication to their patients even though these drugs come with side effects that can be detrimental to your health.

Cholesterol

As simple as it is to bring down high cholesterol readings by making a few changes in one's diet, this type of a natural approach to cholesterol reduction makes much more sense than putting chemicals in your body.

If you want to know how to lower your cholesterol without using medication, here are some things you can do that have a wealth of scientific research behind their ability to reduce cholesterol levels.

1.) Remove saturated fats from your diet to the greatest extent possible. While healthy fats are essential, saturated fats contribute greatly to increased LDL and triglyceride levels.

2.) Increase the amount of cholesterol lowering foods such as vegetables and whole grains in your diet. These foods contain natural substances that have been shown to block cholesterol's absorption into the body.

3.) A great natural way to lower cholesterol is to use cholesterol supplements that contain plant sterols. Skepticism is often required, however, since many supplements on the market will have absolutely no effect on your cholesterol levels.

4.) Begin taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil is relatively inexpensive and has many health benefits. The American Heart Association states that omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil substantially reduce the occurance of heart disease.

Be aware that fish oil has not been shown to lower cholesterol levels. It does however help reduce high triglycerides, which is extremely important.

Learning how to lower your cholesterol without using medication is one of the best things you can do to improve your health. In addition to improved cholesterol readings, you will find that you lose weight and have improved mental focus, two things that the makers of cholesterol medication will never be able to claim.

Can Herbs Lower My Cholesterol?

Strange though it may seem, herbs can lower your cholesterol. I'm sure that you have heard about using herbs as a medicine as well as using them to flavour our foods. However, what is not so well known is that certain herbs can be valuable allies in our fight against high cholesterol levels.

Psyllium

Cholesterol

When I first came across this herb, I thought what on earth is this? Seems it is from a plant called Plantago psyllium which is found in India and Iran. For us, the important thing about psyllium is that it can be used as a source of water soluble fibre. Soluble fibre has the ability to speed up the digestive process and helps to reduce the amount of saturated fat absorbed by the body. Oat bran is also a source of soluble fibre, but it cannot produce as much as psyllium. The numbers are 100 grams of psyllium produce 71 grams of soluble fibre whereas 100 grams of oat bran can only produce 5 grams of soluble fibre.

Garlic

Garlic is another helpful herb for those looking to lower their cholesterol. It contains something called allicin which garlic releases when it is crushed. The great thing about allicin is its ability to prevent the digestive system from absorbing cholesterol. Garlic is widely used in mediterranean cooking, and is an important ingredient in the well known Mediterranean Diet.

Cayenne

Cayenne pepper has many health giving properties. It can help to lower high blood pressure, help to improve blood circulation and best of all it can lower cholesterol levels. Apparently, it can speed up the digestive system and stops the body from absorbing fats. Aside from the benefits of lowering cholesterol, cayenne pepper can apparently reduce the severity of heart attacks.

Coffee and Cholesterol: New Studies Show Link Between Coffee and High Cholesterol

Coffee and Cholesterol: New Studies Show Link Between Coffee and High Cholesterol

What do these things have in common?

Cholesterol

A morning wake-up call

An afternoon pick-me-up

A dessert's perfect companion

A high cholesterol level's worst enemy

It's true. New studies show a link between coffee and high cholesterol. A compound in coffee called cafestol elevates cholesterol by capturing receptors in the intestinal pathway that helps regulation.

Okay, what is this menace that is raising your cholesterol and what does it do? Cafestol is a compound found in coffee that raises the serum concentration of triglycerides and cholesterol in humans. Cafestol also affects the liver cells, causing health complications and the high risk of heart disease.

If you're assuming both decaf and regular coffee have cafestol, then you would be right. Drinking decaf coffee isn't any better than drinking regular coffee. Both coffees contain this potent dietary agent called cafestol.

Studies show that those who drink more than two cups of coffee daily, regular or decaf, are more likely to have their cholesterol raised and have a high risk of getting heart disease and stroke.

Cholesterol has two parts: bad and good cholesterol. You want to keep your bad (LDL) cholesterol down and the keep your good (HDL) cholesterol up! This is something very difficult when you drink coffee.

You might be wondering what kinds of coffees have the most cafestol.

- French press coffee

- Espresso

These two kinds of coffees are the most concentrated with cafestol. Researchers indicate that if you drink up to five cups of French press coffee per day, your cholesterol could increase 8% in as little as four weeks.

Not only are the kinds of coffees affected, but also the way coffee is brewed can affect cholesterol levels. After debating this sensitive issue for decades, scientists and researchers have concluded that coffee made in a percolators or with grounds in a carafe both contain the cholesterol-raising compound, cafestol.

When you make coffee at home, there's a simple way to decrease your chances of raising your cholesterol. Using a filter can dramatically remove cafestol that's in your coffee.

Coffee isn't the only thing that can raise your cholesterol levels. Many different things such as:

- Lifestyle

- Gender

- Heritage

If you just can't go on with the day without your coffee, which let's face it, almost no one can, then I suggest these simple changes that can avoid your cholesterol being tampered with:

1. Use organic coffee

2. Avoid milk, sugar, and cream

3. Use filters when brewing

4. Use Cholestasys herbal supplement

Foods That Contain Cholesterol

Foods That Contain Cholesterol

Some foods do contain cholesterol, so it is important to keep track of the amount existing in every product you buy. Remember to always check the label for exactly how much cholesterol is in every food product. The cholesterol found in some foods is called dietary cholesterol. Some foods are higher than other foods in dietary cholesterol. Liver, prawns, kidneys and eggs tend to have a higher level of cholesterol than others. But, the cholesterol we get in our bodies from food has not as much effect as saturated fat has on our blood cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol

Saturated fat has a greater impact when it comes to increasing/decreasing those ugly LDL cholesterol levels. However, liver is a rich source of vitamin A which is known to be harmful in high amounts. It is highly forbidden for pregnant women to eat liver, and also for older people at risk of bone fracture. The body has a tendency to store vitamin A and levels can build up over many years, so it is recommended that people who already eat liver every week not to increase the number of meals.

Unless your GP or dietitian advises you to cut down on eggs, prawns or kidney if you are already on a balanced diet, you should keep eating them in your normal way. The most important thing to do if your GP has advised you to change your diet to reduce your blood cholesterol is to cut down on saturated fat. Another good idea in order to reduce your blood cholesterol is to increase the amount of fiber, fruit and vegetables you eat.

Cholesterol and fats

Mainly there are two known types of fats - saturated fats and unsaturated fats. Saturated fats are those that you should avoid as much as you can since those are the ones that tend to raise your blood cholesterol levels. Most people in the US eat too many foods that are high in saturated fat.

Foods that are high in saturated fat include: butter, ghee, hard cheese, cream, lard, meat pies, hard cheese, sausages, fatty cuts of meat, cakes and biscuits, oils such as coconut oil and palm oil.

While saturated fat increases your blood cholesterol numbers, unsaturated fat can actually reduce cholesterol levels. Try replacing foods containing saturated fats with foods that are high in unsaturated fats such as: avocados, seeds and nuts, oily fish, corn, olive, sunflower rapeseed oils and spreads and vegetable oils are also healthy choices.

High Blood Cholesterol

In every cell of your body you will find cholesterol. This fat-like substance is very important since is it is a component of cell membranes and it is also a building block in the formation of some hormones. Remember that your body makes all the cholesterol it needs and everything in your diet is extra - and it is not really that healthy. Not at all.

You may develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels when there's too much cholesterol in your blood. In time, these deposits will make it very difficult for your blood to flow through your arteries. Increasing the risk of heart attack, your heart may not get as much oxygen-rich blood as it needs because of the narrowed arteries. A stroke is caused by a decreased blood flow.

Cholesterol

But there is also some good news. Hypercholesterolemia or high blood cholesterol is generally preventable. Toward reducing high cholesterol a healthy diet, regular exercises and other lifestyle changes can go a long way. In some cases, medication may be needed too.

Causes

Cholesterol is attached to proteins and it is carried through your blood. Lipoprotein is the cholesterol-protein package. The main and known types of lipoproteins are:

Low density lipoprotein - LDL or the "bad" cholesterol transports cholesterol throughout the body. It builds up on your arteries' walls and it makes them narrow and hard.

High-density lipoprotein - HDL or the "good" cholesterol picks up excess cholesterol and takes it back to the liver.

Inactivity, an unhealthy diet and obesity - these are some of the various factors that contribute to those high LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol. Another role may be played by factors beyond your control. For example, your genetic makeup may keep cells from removing LDL cholesterol from your blood efficiently or cause your liver to produce too much cholesterol.

Risk factors

If you are inactive, eat unhealthy foods or you are obese, you are more likely to have high cholesterol. Other factors can lead to heart disease although high cholesterol is one of the main causes. Some of the other risk factors are:

Smoking - Smoking generally damages the walls of your blood vessels and this way the fatty deposits are more likely to accumulate. Also, HDL cholesterol levels are lowered by smoking

High blood pressure - an increased pressure on your artery walls will damage your arteries. This speeds up the accumulation of fatty deposits.
